Ruth Rogers
This is Ruth, a mother of two and a wife to Graeme who some of you might have met at the Y.A Cafe. She works as a public health nurse in the day but her a fond love for running and people have meant she has looked for opportunities to merge the two together.
For those who don’t know, Ruth has been spearheading and introducing a new programme into the Nelson calendar, parkrun. parkrun is a global phenomenon that sees over 2,300 events world wide with over 9 million registered park runners running, jogging and volunteering weekly. This Saturday at 8am is the official launch of parkrun in Nelson and will continue every Saturday here on out. Mind you, this isn’t a plug for the event. But if you are keen please do support the event by coming this Saturday.
I wanted to write about Ruth today because I think it’s really special for us to honour my fellow Nelson people doing the mahi.
Ruth does this because of her edifying heart for serving the community. We are blessed in our city to have a wide variety of christian expression when it comes to building community. From people wanting to create life groups to worship events like the ones in the farm. For Ruth and her husband, their expression to love others is by building events that bless the community. Events like this, although not inherently Christian focussed, gives moments and opportunity for people to build community and build relationships.
We have been privileged to have heard how hard she has worked throughout the last few months at our life group. Blessed because I have been actively inspired and challenged to have as big a servant-hearted spirit as the Rogers. Blessed because I got to see my friends see how Jesus-centred they have been throughout this experience.
